A Railway Centric Integrated Transportation System is Necessary for Safe Travel

Road based transportation system has caused a chaotic situation with a lots of deaths and other sufferings. If rail continues to be neglected as a transport mode then the situation will become more chaotic. So there is no solution other than building a rail centric transportation system. On 30 July 2015 speakers of a human chain, jointly organized by Poribesh Bachao Andolon (POBA), NASAF, Ainer Pathshala, Poribesh Unnoyon Society and Work for a Better Bangladesh Trust, expressed the above demand.

Speakers said that road based transportation system ignoring rail has been proved fatal for the people. Transportation system plays an important role in the environment, economy, politics, culture, education and health of a country. All the citizens have the right to have safe, comfortable and cost effective transportation system. Rail and water based transport could have been a solution but in Bangladesh these modes have been ignored. As the transportation system has been road based so the number of deaths has increased. At the same time pollution, fuel cost, traffic jam has also increased. Along with pollution asthma, stroke, deafness etc diseases have also increased. And our precious agricultural lands are being destroyed to expand roads.

The human chain was chaired by Abu Naser Khan, Chairman, Poribesh Bachao Andolon (POBA). Besides Hafizur Rahman Moyna, Chairman, NASAF; Maruf Hossain, National Advocacy Officer, Work for a Better Bangladesh Trust; Subrata Das Khokon, Chairman, Ainer Pathshala; Burhan Uddin Ahmed, Chairman, Poribesh Unnoyon Society; Md Nazim Uddin, Chairman, Puran Dhaka Nagorik Uddog; Engineer Tofayel Ahmed, executive Member, POBA; Amir Hasan, Chairman, Green Mind Society; Professor Kamal Ataur Rahman, Chairman, Bangladesh Peace Movement were also present in the program.
