Ensure Dhaka-Narayanganj Double Rail line Demand to not shut down Narayanganj Rail station

Everyday around 4500 people including service holder, business man and students, travel using Dhaka-Narayanganj rail route. According to information, administration is thinking to shut down Narayanganj Rail Station to build multi-storied building and wants to create road by removing Chashara to Narayanganj rail line. Dhaka- Narayanganj rail route plays an important role in reducing traffic congestion and population load in Dhaka. So it is important to ensure Dhaka-Narayanganj Double Rail line and not to shut down the Narayanganj Rail station. On 24th August, 2017, Save the Environment Movement (POBA), Bangladesh Poribesh Andolon (BAPA) and Work for a Better Bangladesh Trust jointly organized a round table meeting on ‘Importance of Narayanganj Rail station to reduce Traffic Congestion’ in POBA office and speakers mentioned the above view there.

Project Officer of Work for a Better Bangladesh Trust, Atiqur Rahman said that, at present, we have observed three signals per hour in 2 no rail gate in Narayanganj. Without rail crossing in road transport people wait for 20 minutes in the signal. So the 9 minute signal cannot be a reason of congestion. If the railway station is shut down, people will be facing so many problems like- unavailability of vehicle, more expense and many more.

Speakers of the program said that, rail is the most convenient transport mode. So, most of cities in the world prioritize rail as their mode of transport. To resolve the present problem in Narayanganj, a over pass can be built like Banani.

The round table meeting was presided by Chairman of POBA, Abu Naser Khan and moderated by Program Manager of Work for a Better Bangladesh Trust. Speakers of the program were General Secretary of POBA Engineer Andus Sobhan, Joint Secretary of BAPA Shahjahan Mridha Benu, Abul Hasnat from Modern Club, Mehedi Hasan Sharan from Prass Bangladesh, Deputy Program Manager of Work for a Better Bangladesh Trust Naznin Kabir, Member of POBA Kaisar Ahmed and many more.
