CIDA-Supported Tobacco Control Work |
In July 2003, WBB began a six-country,
three-year tobacco control program supported by the Canadian International
Development Agency (CIDA). The program, "South to South
Collaboration and Capacity Building for International Tobacco Control",
involves collaboration among six low-income countries (Bangladesh, India,
Nepal, Niger, Nigeria and Vietnam) to support capacity building, media
work, research, and other efforts to reduce tobacco use through stronger
policies. As part of
the program, WBB continues to support the
Bangladesh
Anti-Tobacco Alliance, work with the Government of Bangladesh on
revising its draft tobacco control law, build the capacity of local NGOs,
network with organizations throughout the country, and regularly meet with
the media to promote public and government support for tobacco control.
In July 2003, WBB finished a
two-year tobacco control project supported by the Canadian International
Development Agency (CIDA), including a
training
for tobacco control advocates,
mass
media campaign,
capacity
building and broadening of the network of the
Bangladesh
Anti-Tobacco Alliance.
In August 2002, WBB
conducted a midterm
evaluation of our
CIDA-funded project.
WBB is also heavily
involved in activities to promote strong
tobacco
control law in Bangladesh and to promote the
FCTC. |
