View exchange meeting at Azimpur appealed to stop illegal advertisement of tobacco products

Anti-tobacco organizations appealed to the govt. to stop illegal advertisement of tobacco products by implementing Smoking and Tobacco Products Usage (Control) Act 2005.  28th july 2015 a view exchange meeting arranged jointly by Work for a Better Bangladesh (WBB) Trust, BCHRD and Rainbow Women and Child Welfare Foundation in local shop owners associations meeting room at Azimpur. Md. Khairul Alam, the ED of Rainbow Women and Child Welfare Foundation took the chair in the meeting which was conducted by A.N.M. Masum Billah Bhuiyan, the Development officer of WBB Trust. The meeting also attended by Helal Ahmed, General Secretary of Prottyasha Anti Tobacco Organization; Nazrul Islam Sarkar, ED, Grameen Unnayan Sansgtha; Mahbubul Haque, ED, BCHRD; Nafiza Sultana, Chairman, Rainbow Women and Child Welfare Foundation; Shuvo Karmokar, Assistant Advocacy Officer of WBB Trust etc.

Speakers said continue promotion of tobacco products is against the law and it is influencing the young generations to be addicted.  Millions of women are victimized by indirect smoking at workplace. It is mandatory to ensure public place and transport smoking-free to save the women, children and non-smokers. "We have to come out for stopping promotion and patronage of tobacco product for our own wellbeing" one speaker said. They also mentioned it is prohibited to sell tobacco product to under 18 aged persons and also engaging them in tobacco selling. In spite of facing mobile court the companies motivated the sellers to advertise the tobacco product which is against the law. That's why all have to work for implementing the law. They also assured that anti-tobacco organizations will actively engage in implementation of the law.
