Call for rebuilding Wall of Lalbagh Fort and Creating Garden

In the middle of June 2015, an initiative was taken to build a car parking in the Lalbagh Fort by diminishing its wall. Environmentalist organizations took a strong position against the activity. Honorable High Court then ordered to stop building car parking within 24 hours and bring it back in the previous condition. On 4 July 2015 a team containing members of Poribesh Bachao Andolon (POBA), Green Mind Society, Work for a Better Bangladesh Trust and other environmentalist organizations, led by Abu Naser Khan, Chairman, Poribesh Bachao Andolon (POBA) went to inspect the present situation of Lalbagh Fort. They found that the demolished part of the wall has been rebuilt. But it is necessary to create a garden and bring it back in its previous form.

The inspection team has also seen that though the wall has been rebuilt but the parking infrastructure in the Fort is prevailing. According to the team it is important to have expert opinion to bring back the Fort in its previous form. Director General of Department of Antiquities, Md Altaf Hossain has committed to create a garden in the place of parking infrastructure. The team has expressed hope that the commitment will be fulfilled soon. 

Local Commissioner Aleya Parvin Ranju; Amir Hasan, Secretariat, Green Mind Society; Maruf Hossain, National Advocacy Officer, Work for a Better Bangladesh Trust; Ziaur Rahman Litu, Project Officer, Work for a Better Bangladesh Trust etc were present in the inspection team.
