Commitment to Make Rayerbazar Boishakhi Playground user friendly for all

Parks and playgrounds provide opportunity for physical activity, mental recreation and socialization. Rayerbazar area of 34 no ward of Dhaka North City Corporation has only Boishakhi Playground for it’s about 250,000 dwellers. Some facilities, such as- sitting arrangements, security, lighting etc should be ensured. Besides, the field should be accessible for all. On 14th September 2017, Work for a Better Bangladesh Trust organized a view exchange meeting on ‘Proposal and Action to Develop Rayerbazar Boishakhi Playground’ and speakers expressed as above there.

Keynote speaker of the program was Atiqur Rahman, Project Officer, Work for a Better Bangladesh Trust. He said that, Boishakhi playground is very important for Rayerbazar area. It will be helpful for the growth of the children in the community. As the field is not accessible for girls so the presence of girl child of age group 0-8 years is only 3.9%. Along with government, personal and institutional steps should be taken to develop the playground.

Councilor of 34 no ward of Dhaka North City Corporation Alhajj Abu Taher Khan said that, the field needs greenery. More over there is problem of water clogging during rainy season. We will take steps to solve the problem. We have provided a public toilet in the playground. If we get recommendations to develop the playground we will implement those.

Zonal Executive Officer of Zone-5 of DNCC, SM Ajior Rahman said that, we have already appointed a consultant to develop the park. We need to ensure the participation of community people for the development of the playground. Also men and women should get equal opportunity to use the playground.
