Urge to Save Germplasm Center at Agargaon

Bangladesh Poribesh Andolan, Poribesh Bachao Andolan, Bangladesh Environmental Lawyers’ Association, Tarupallab, Work for A Better Bangladesh Trust and Green Voice jointly organized a press conference on 30th August 2017 at Sagar-Runi Auditorium of Dhaka Reporters Unity to express the concern over the proposed construction yard of metro-rail project in the area of Agargaon fruit-tree germplasm centre located inside the national parade ground. The speakers said that, we fear that more than 700 mother trees of various indigenous fruits would be felled to provide space for the proposed construction yard. 

Keynote speaker Md Shahjahan Mridha said that 80 per cent of the centre’s trees would be cut down for the project and the rest would be badly affected when the construction yard came into operation. 
The press conference was chaired by columnist Syed Abul Maksud. The pther speakers were former adviser to caretaker government Rasheda K Chowdhury, BAPA general secretary Mohammad Abdul Matin, Abu Naser Khan, Chairman, POBA, Tarupallab general secretary Mokarram Hossain, BAPA joint secretary Mihir Biswas and horticulturist Afzal Hossain.
