Demand to take legal actions against law breaker 'tobacco companies

Demand rose for taking disciplinary action against tobacco companies including BAT for violating tobacco control law. British American Tobacco Company (BAT) is promoting their products under the modified cigarette packets promotional campaign which is the apparent violation of the law. They conducted campaigns by distributing leaflet, handbill etc. prior to National Tobacco Control Cell or relevant government departments public notice across the country. Anti tobacco activists appealed to govt. to take disciplinary action against violators through legislative measures and demanded to strengthen tobacco control law monitoring systems in a demonstration program held at National Press Club on 20th March 2016. 

Speakers said BAT and other tobacco companies are frequently promote tobacco products breaching the tobacco control law in many ways. Tobacco ads promoting institutions those are violating the state law should be brought under exemplary punishment. Even crossing 19th March 2016 the cunning tobacco companies are declining to implement pictorial warning in the tobacco packages. They requested to conduct market monitoring and mobile court on behalf of administration to prevent companies such activities. 

At the end of the program, Bangladesh Anti-Tobacco Alliance (BATA) and other anti-tobacco group has been given a memorandum to the Honorable Minister of Health through National Tobacco Control Cell.
