Recently Aminul Islam Sujon from Bangladesh has been awarded (Young Leader Scholarship) in Asia Pacific Conference on Tobacco or Health-APACT 2010. It is a prestigious attainment for Bangladesh. None before him has got such award from Bangladesh. He has been working in public health development, tobacco control and awareness building on environmental issues for twelve years.

The Young Leader Scholarship was awarded to 5 persons from more than 100 countries of Asia Pacific Region. Mr. Sujon has received this award with Dr. Tao Liu of China, Dr. Piyarat Nimpitakpong of Thailand, Ms. Itsnaeni Abbas of Indonesia and Ms. Minh Thac Nguyen of Vietnam.

Mr. Aminul Islam was involved in journalism from 1997 to 2009 and hold the post of  General Secretary of Cultural Journalist Forum of Bangladesh (CJFB) in 2006, Executive Editor of Monthly Anandadin. He also worked as reporter in Daily Janakantha, Monthly Television, Bangladesh Betar and others dailies in Bangladesh. He is now working in WBB (Work for a Better Bangladesh) Trust as Project coordinator. He has become plaintiff on behalf of Bangladesh Tamak Birodhi Jote in the Trial of Tobacco Ban under Bandarban District Court. He has edited more than 15 books on tobacco, environment and public health issues.

Mr. Aminul expressed his gratitude to Dr. Ehsan Latif, Director (in-charge) International Tobacco Control, International Union against Tuberculosis and Lung Diseases (The Union), Dr. M Mostafa Zaman, National Professional Officer of World Health Organization (WHO) and Mr. Saifuddin Ahmed, Coordinator of Bangladesh Tamak Birodhi Jote for being awarded the scholarship.

It is to mention that 12 officials from different organizations including Mr. Saifuddin Ahmed, Coordinator of Bangladesh Tamak Birodhi Jote participated in APACT from Bangladesh.
