International Noise Pollution Awareness Day 2014

On the occasion of International Noise Pollution Awareness Day, a discussion meeting was organized by Poribesh Bachao Andolan (POBA) jointly with Work for a Better Bangladesh (WBB) Trust on 30 April 2014, 11 AM at POBA office, Kalabagan, Dhaka.

Joint General Secretary and Former Additional Director General of the Department of Environment Engr. Md Abdus Sobhan presided the meeting. WBB Senior Project Officer Naznin Kabir, Mahbul Haque, president of Bangladesh Peace Movement Prof Kamal Ataur Rahman, Forum Conservation Co-editor Mohammad Salim, Assistant Coordinator Tariq, Mithula Hossain and MA Hasan spoke in the meeting. Whereas, POBA Coordinator Atique Morshed facilitated the meeting.

In the meeting, noise pollution's causes, effects, its laws,etc were discussed. Noise Pollution has both adverse effects on physical and psychological statement. The sensitive areas like hospitals, educational institutions are enduring noise pollution with high dB which is not tolerable by human ear.

In law, it is mention the range of up to 100 meters around such area is identified as " silent area ". We have plenty of laws to control noise pollution but there is lack of implementation.

City Corporation, RAJUK, local government, law enforcement organizations everyone should take effective steps. Not only these authorities, it is also our responsibility to take necessary step to control noise pollution.
