Proper use of budget and progress evaluation is important for master plan for Haor

Haor is kind of wetland and it is everywhere in Bangladesh. In particular, couple of districts, Haor is key sources of agricuture or irrigation. That is why, master plan for Haor development is one of most important policy document. Through implementing Haor master plan, we may save resrouces of Haor (ecology and environmnet, fisheries and agricultura etc). Remember, we should not build any road or bridge within Haor, because it will destry nature of Haor. Rather we can ensure proper wáter-based transportation.

Experts suggested above in a discussion on world wetland day meeting on ‘Haor Master Plan and its management’ at 2 February 2015 in Dhaka Reporters Unity Auditorium. As part of World Wateland Day, Poribesh Bachao Andolon (POBA/Save the Environment Movement), Work for a Better Bangladesh (WBB) Trust and National River Conservation  Commission jointly organized this round-table discussion.

Renown environmentalist and founder of POBA, Abu Naser Khan presided this meeting, while Ataharul Islam, Chairman of River Save Commission, Afroza Moazzem, Director General of Watelands Development Board, Syed Arif Azad, Director General of the Department of Fisharies were spoke as guest speaker.

Meanwhile, three different papers were presented at this meeting; these are: Hoar master plan and management by Monwar Hossain, Joint Secretary of POBA, Fishing in watelands by Dr. Niaz Pasha and Haor land and its masterplan by Gias Uddin Ahmed, chief planner of Master plan.

Various experts and activists also spoke in a open discussion; among them Md. Alauddin; additional secretary and member of Save River Commission, Engineer Abdus Sobhan; Executive Secretary General of POBA, Advocate Syed Mahbubul Alam, Director of Work for a Better Bangladesh (WBB) Trust, Engineer Bushra Nishad, representative of International Water Resource Center, Abul Hashem; Director of Watland Project also spoke.
