In Social Justice Day it is an appeal to establish justice in society through evaluating Women’s Household works

Economic and human development, both indexes are positive in Bangladesh. To get merits through these indexes, it is necessary to have development with equality and fairness. In this case, all types of inequality have to be eliminated. Especially, keeping women behind it is not possible to assure development in family and society. Women contribute at household works and that has importance on the development of family and society. If the contribution is evaluated, injustice and violence against women will be reduced and it will play an important role to establish social justice.  20th February 2017 at 4 pm in Ekushey Book fair, Work for a Better Bangladesh (WBB) Trust organized an awareness campaign with title ‘To assure social justice, women’s household works should be evaluated’ and there the speakers express their opinion.

In the campaign, the speakers said that in 2007 at UN general assembly, the Day was announced as World Social Justice Day. This year theme for the day is ‘Preventing conflict and sustaining peace through decent work’. Eliminating poverty, increasing working sources for needy including women, creating fair participation of men and women in development, and establishing justice for all were main goals of the day.

Moreover, the speakers mentioned that establishing social justice is necessary to consider as leading principal. Hence, interest of gender, age, color, religion, and marginal people has to be preserved with the power. Particularly, women’s respect needs to be ensured in family and society and thus, it is mandatory to have wish and sincerity in all. Through a research by WBB Trust, it is crystal clear that everyday women do 45 types of works within 16 hours in a day. Cencus 2012, mentions that 15-64 years of women’s household works is $ 258.82 which was $227.93 at past. These were twice than the GDP of Bangladesh. It is noted that in 2012 amount of GDP was $ 118.7. Thus, in 2012 the working value of women was calculated with the satndard of second class government employee’s income considering the household working hours for 8 hours. On one hand, if this contribution is included in national economy, the invisible labor of women will get priority. On the other hand, respect for women in family and society will increase and this will play a vital role to establish social justice.

In the campaign, there Naznin Kabir, Deputy Program manager; Tanjida Huq, Ass. advocay officer; Firoza Begum, Director Banchtey Shekhay Nari, and Salma Begum, Shopner Shiri were present.
