The fourth farmer's market of Dhaka South is inaugurated in Azimpur

After achieving food security, the present government has emphasized towards ensuring safe food. On the other hand, people are conscious about the necessity of consumption of safe, healthy, and nutritious food. As a result, safe vegetable cultivation is now becoming popular across the country. Apart from encouraging farmers to practice safe farming, proper market management should ensure that they get the right price for their produce. At the same time consumers can easily access and afford safe vegetables and fruits. Neighbourhood farmers' market is an effective solution in this regard.

On 21 October 2022 speakers opined such in the inauguration ceremony of farmers’ market at ward no.26, DSCC. The event was jointly organized by Dhaka South City Corporation, Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations, Department of Agriculture Extension and Work for a Better Bangladesh Trust with support of the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands. 10 farmers, who practice safe farming and endorsed by DAE, from Vakurta, Savar will sell their vegetables and fruits every Friday from 7 am to 2 pm at the farmers market organized in front of Sir Salimullah Muslim Orphanage, Azimpur Road.

This farmer's market was inaugurated by the chief guest of the event Alhaj Hasibur Rahman Manik, Councilor of Ward No. 26 of Dhaka South City Corporation and Nilufar Rahman, Reserved Councilor, ward 22, 23, 26, Dhaka South City Corporation was present as special guest.

The event was moderated by senior project manager of Work for a Better Bangladesh Trust Ziaur Rahman. Speakers of the program were Sub Assistant Agriculture Officer of Savar Vakurta Union Bajlur Rashid; National Project Coordinator of Dhaka Food System Project of FAOBD Jainal Abedin; and Director of WBB Trust Gaous Pearee. Also, Manik Biswas, Ward Secretary of Ward No. 26 of Dhaka South City Corporation, Sharifa Parveen, Food System City Coordinator of Dhaka South of Dhaka Food System Project and residents were present in the event.
