Dhaka South's sixth farmers' market inaugurated at Hazaribagh

To meet the need of safe food of the Dhaka city dwellers, the sixth farmers' market of Dhaka South City Corporation has been inaugurated in Hazaribagh Jhauchar area under the 'Establishing Neighbourhood Farmers’ Market’ program. 10 farmers, who practice safe farming and selected by the Department of Agriculture Extension, from Hazratpur, Keraniganj will sell their safe vegetables and fruits directly to the consumers in this market. Both farmers and consumers will benefit if initiatives like farmers' markets are expanded nationwide.

On 18 November 2022 at 9.00 AM speakers opined such in the inauguration ceremony of farmers’ market at Ward No. 55 of Dhaka South City Corporation, Jhauchar Main Road, in front of Titas Gas Office. The event was jointly inaugurated by Dhaka South City Corporation, Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations, Department of Agriculture Extension and Work for a Better Bangladesh Trust with the support of Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands.

Alhaj Md Noore Alam Chowdhury, Councilor of Ward No. 55 of Dhaka South City Corporation inaugurated the farmers' market as the chief guest of the event. The opening ceremony was moderated by the senior project manager of Work for a Better Bangladesh Trust, Ziaur Rahman. The special guest of the event was Shefali Akhter, reserved councilor of ward No. 55, 56, 57, President of Ward No. 55 Awami League Abdur Rashid Sarkar, Senior Technical Advisor of Dhaka Food System Project of FAOBD Xavier Bouan, and Director of WBB Trust Gaous Pearee. Also, Food System City Coordinator of DSCC Sharifa Parveen, Haji Salauddin, Senior Vice President, Ward No. 55 Awami League, Jamal Barada, General Secretary, Kamrangirchar Thana Unit were present in the event.
