Socialization and playing opportunities at Khilgaon

According to the World Health Organization, Bangladesh needs 9 square meters of open space per person. Dhaka city has less than 0.1 square meters of open space per person. In the last 20 years, 126 fields have been lost from Dhaka city. The detailed area plan (DAP) contains proposals for creating a significant number of parks and playgrounds, but implementation is a matter of considerable time. Car-free Street is an effective initiative to create opportunities to play and socialize for all residents, including children, by controlling car movement on less busy roads within the area.

Today, on 21 March 2023, at 03:00 pm, Ward No. 01 of Dhaka South City Corporation, with the cooperation of Health Bridge Foundation of Canada, Pallima Sangsad, NASF, Khilgaon Shamajik Shangstha, Martial Arts Foundation, Car free Cities Alliance Bangladesh and WBB Trust opined such at the opening ceremony of a car-free street event on the eastern side of Khilgaon Pallima Sangsad (Pallima Sangsad Goli). Every Tuesday, from 3.00 to 5.00 pm, various games, including chess, Ludo, carom, jump rope, badminton, painting, and crafts, will be organized on this road.

Sue Men Jo, Zonal Executive Officer of Zone 2 of Dhaka South City Corporation, inaugurated the event the chief guest The event was presided over by Mahbubul Alam, Councilor of Ward 01 of Dhaka South City Corporation and moderated by Senior Project Manager of WBB Trust Ziaur Rahman. Hafizur Rahman Moyna, Coordinator of Khilgaon Car Free Street Program, Ershad Mansoor, General Secretary of Pallima Sangsad, Awal Kamruzzaman Farid, Coordinator of Khilgaon Residential Area Environment Protection Committee, Babul Academy and Pallima Vidyapeeth Principal Mera Roy and Work for a Better Bangladesh Trust Director Gaous Pearee spoke in the event. Dhaka South City Corporation Zone 2 Zonal Health Officer Abu Sadat Md Saleh , students of the Martial Art Foundation and many others were also present at the event
