World Car Free Day 2023 Demands to take initiatives at the policy level to regulate private cars

Wherever the dependence on private cars has increased worldwide, problems like traffic jams, time consumption, and fuel consumption have become dire. By celebrating World Car Free Day 2023, we want to highlight to policymakers the importance of private car regulation and ensuring walking, cycling, and public transport-friendly urban transport systems.

Today, 22 September 2023, on the occasion of the celebration of World Private Car Free Day 2023, the speakers said this in the walking rally organized from Dhanmondi 27 intersection to Abahoni playground. The day is currently celebrated in about 4,000 cities worldwide. The day has been observed in Bangladesh since 2006. More than two hundred participants, including students of the Rayerbazar area and representatives of non-governmental organizations, were present at the rally organized by the joint initiative of World Car Free Day organizing comittee.

Mr Sheikh Mohammad Hossain Khokon, Councilor of Ward No. 34 of Dhaka North City Corporation, was present as the event's chief guest and Abu Naser Khan, chairman of Save the Environment Movement presided over the meeting. The event was moderated by Md. Mithun, assistant project officer of Work for a Better Bangladesh Trust. Gaous Pearee, director of Work for a Better Bangladesh Trust, gave a welcome speech in a short discussion before the rally. Founder President of NASF Hafizur Rahman Moina, General Secretary of Pratyasha Anti-Drug Club Helal Ahmed, General Secretary of Bangladesh Poribesh Andolon Alamgir Kabir, Executive Director of Institute for Planning and Development Adil Mohammad Khan, Founder of Dhaka Ideal Cadet School MA Mannan Monir, assistant teacher of Rayerbazar High School Tahajjot Hossain and many others also spoke in the event.
